Sophos estimates that more than 500 computer viruses are unleashed into the world every month. The Abingdon company says it fights them all, providing online security for more than 10m users worldwide. Sales have increased 55% a year from £9.4m in 1999 to £23m in 2001. In May, TA Associates, an American investment firm, paid £41m for a minority stake in Sophos, which was founded by Oxford postgraduates Jan Hruska and Peter Lammer in 1985.
