This West Sussex company was bought from Royal Bank of Scotland in 2007 by Greensands, a consortium of funds led by JP Morgan, for a reported £4.2bn. Under chief executive Ian McAulay, 53, it now supplies 532m litres of drinking water a day from 91 treatment works. It has pledged to spend £3bn by 2020 on improving its water and waste-water services in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
