Southern Water supplies more than 1m households and treats waste water from 2m homes across southeast England. The company is midway through a five-year, £1.8bn capital investment plan and recently completed a £300m wastewater treatment plant in Sussex. Chief executive Matthew Wright, 48, has also announced long-term plans to invest in smart water meters to help customers reduce bills. The company reported sales of £716m in 2012.
