Specsavers has been voted Britain’s most trusted brand of opticians by Reader’s Digest for eight consecutive years. “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” is a well-known slogan, and the company says a third of British glasses and contact-lens wearers do just that. It is also the largest British retail dispenser of digital hearing aids. Doug and Dame Mary Perkins started the business on a table-tennis table in their spare bedroom in 1984. It now employs more than 26,000 people and has more than 1,500 stores across Europe and Australasia. Sales were £1,360m in the year to February 2010.
