Specsavers sells spectacles and contact lenses from more than 1,000 high-street stores run as joint partnerships with optometrists. Founded in Guernsey in 1984 by husband and wife Doug and Mary Perkins, Specsavers has since expanded into the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain and Australia. The company’s stores also sell hearing aids. Specsavers says it tops its sector in Britain and Ireland, with more than 30% of the market. Group sales are expected to be £1,020m in the year to February 2008.
