The NHS accounts for 23% of its total revenue, which reached £739m in 2012 under chief executive Rob Roger, 52. Spire was formed in 2007 when Cinven, the private equity firm, backed a £1.4bn acquisition of 25 former Bupa hospitals. In January, the company completed a partial refinancing of its loan facilities through the sale and leaseback of 12 properties, halving its bank debt to £700m.
