When Roy Woolcock was made redundant in 1991 he decided to use his 17 years of experience making recycling machinery. He founded Spring Resources and soon won his first contract to supply a second-hand machine to a South African company. Spring Resources now makes machines that recycle everything from paper to whole cars. The company’s subsidiaries also make bolts, screws and plating for the machines. Woolcock attributes the firm’s 68% annual sales growth, from £646,000 in 1996 to £3.1m in 1999, to good customer service.
