Founded in 1956 by farmer Duncan Adam, this Scottish housebuilder had a change of fortunes when it started doing its own construction in 1998. Previously, it had bought land, designed houses and then subcontracted the building work. The move into construction allowed it to win larger contracts in Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands. It has just built 103 affordable homes in Moray for four housing associations. The company is now run by Duncan’s son Sandy and its sales have grown 83% a year from £2m in 2001 to £12.2m in 2004.
