Best known for its Tribute ale, this brewer has produced nearly 700m pints of beer since it was founded in Cornwall in 1851 by Walter Hicks. Still owned by the same family, it operates 25 managed pubs and hotels, as well as 143 tenanted and leased pubs. It is a wholesale supplier to nearly 5,000 bars, restaurants, hotels, pubs and clubs in south west England, and has also branched out into coffee, with the launch of its Brewer & Bean cafés. Under managing director James Staughton, 56, sales hit £125.4m in 2014.
