This Manchester firm sells more than 200m of its bakery products every year in 35,000 stores across the UK, Europe, America and the Middle East. It has three brands: St Pierre, Baker Street and Paul Hollywood, and also supplies own-brand products to supermarkets. Founded in 1986 by managing director Jeremy Gilboy, 61, and international director Paul Baker, 51, the firm has expanded into America, where demand for its European-style bakery products helped the firm’s profits reach £6.6m in 2018. The firm also uses an “ultra-clean” packing process in order to protect products from micro-organisms and guarantee a longer shelf life. Last year, it rebranded from Carrs Foods to St Pierre Groupe and secured a £6.5m investment from BGF. It also hired David Milner, chief executive of Lily’s Kitchen, as non-executive chairman to help reach a target of £150m in sales by 2022.
