Famous for its range of stairlifts for the elderly and infirm at home, Stannah also makes a range of passenger and goods lifts such as escalators, dumbwaiters and trolley lifts. The company was founded by Joseph Stannah in 1860 and is still run today by fourth generation joint chairmen Alan and Brian Stannah. The company says it has sold more than 400,000 stairlifts worldwide since 1975. It now operates in more than 50 countries and has subsidiaries in nine countries including Holland, Italy and America, helping sales reach £157.6m in 2007.
