Stemcor has built a global business in steel, and now trades steel and raw materials from offices across six continents. High demand, particularly from China, and soaring prices combined to boost sales to £2,864m in 2005, which together with a series of acquisitions have led to healthy operating profits of £43m. Based in the City of London, Stemcor was founded as a joint Anglo-German venture in 1951 and is now owned and run by the founder’s son, Ralph Oppenheimer, and other members of the family.
