Survitec makes rafts, life jackets and other training and rescue kit for customers such as P&O, Shell and the US Navy. In 2015, it was acquired by Canadian private equity firm Onex, which in 2016 merged it with Wilhelmsen Maritime Services safety arm. Under chief executive Brian Stringer, 55, the combined company operates in 35 countries, and favourable currency fluctuations helped to push sales to £287.4m in 2016.
