This Widnes firm specialises in transporting chemicals, gas and fuel oil by road, rail and sea. Its 80-year history has been colourful. Founder Alf Sutton joined his mother’s coal delivery service in the 1920s, grew the company into a transport business, but then it was nationalised after the second world war. By 1954 he had bought back the company from British Road Services. Profits under the chairmanship of his son Michael have grown 78% a year, from £605,000 in 2004 to £3.4m in 2007.
