Douglas Gregory’s Symphony Holdings claims to be one of Britain’s largest privately owned supplier of fitted furniture. The company, with sites in Leeds and Rotherham, sells kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms to developers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia as well as supplying independent high-street retailers. The government’s drive to build cheaper homes has led to new contracts with social housing firms. The company has also introduced two upmarket brands, Charles Yorke and Mirari, which helped profits rise 49% a year from £1.9m in 2000 to £6.2m in 2003.
