Fast Track 100

Barry Smith, 70, saw his animals get healthier after they ate germinated barley grains, so he created a product to help humans in the same way. He founded Symprove in 2002 and its probiotic drinks, manufactured at its headquarters in Farnham, are popular with sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome. Sales hit £7.5m last year under chief executive Mike Butler, 60, and more recently, the company reported a record 50% rise in customers in May compared with 2019, as people increasingly reflected on their health and wellbeing. Two months later, private equity firm bdcapital took a majority stake for an undisclosed sum.
