Philip Blacker, a former banker, fought to win a software contract from Financial Times Information. But in 1999 the contract went to his biggest competitor and he faced losing most of his customers as well as his data source. However, Blacker, who founded Luton-based Synergy Software Solutions in 1991, quickly secured other data providers and found new clients. Sales of Synergy’s financial charting and analysis software have grown 52% a year from £540,000 in 1999 to £1.3m in 2001.
