This Lancashire firm runs clinical trials for pharmaceutical firms such as Pfizer and Roche, and generated overseas sales of £28.2m last year. Led by chief executive Christophe Berthoux, 54, Synexus runs 28 research centres in Britain, Europe and South Africa, and in March it entered the US market by acquiring Research Across America for an undisclosed sum. Following the close of research, Synexus was acquired by US drugs firm PPD, in a deal valuing the company at £178m.
