Syscap, a computer leasing and rental company, was founded by Phil Brook in 1990 when he saw a gap in the market for a company to act as an intermediary between computer makers and customers who wanted to lease their equipment. Syscap is now a preferred rental partner for industry giants such as Compaq, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems. Its customers include British Airways and KPMG. Recent growth has come from dealing with local education authorities in support of the government initiative to give all pupils access to personal computers. Based in central London, the company has driven up sales 110% a year from £5.3m in 1997 to £48.7m in 2000, when it employed 138 people. It plans to float next year.
