In 1991 the Tailor cousins – two Ugandans and a Kenyan — founded Tai Computer Systems, a London-based computer component distributor. Sales have grown from £1.6m in 1994 to £9.3m in 1997, while adding just 11 new employees. Managing Director, Rajnikant Tailor, chalks up the company’s success to a flexible structure, which means lots of hat swapping, automated systems, hard work – people often stay until 9 or 10pm — and to its exclusive distributor status with suppliers in the Far East. The three founders got their electronics training from working at Westinghouse Electric.
