Scrapped cars, used drink cans and electronic components are the currency for Cheshire-based Tandom which processes metals and trades them all over the world. The firm — which was the No 1 company on last year’s league table — was founded in 2008 when managing director Tom Muir, 58, and commercial director Andrew Lumsden, 49, merged their two recycling companies. Soaring metal prices, coupled with high demand from European car makers and metal processors in China and India, pushed exports up further to £25.6m in 2014.
