Tao has received more than £35m from investors such as venture capitalists Cross Atlantic Capital Partners and Nauta Capital. Its flagship product Intent is a software engine that allows multimedia content to be run on mobile phones. Co-founded by Francis Charig and Chris Hinsley in 1992, the Reading company sells to electronics manufacturers, including Sharp, JVC and Sony. Sales have jumped 107% a year from £1.1m in 2003 to £4.9m in 2005, when the company made a significant loss.
