David Hart, co-founder of Tax Computer Systems, says calculations are getting so complex that even the most seasoned tax professionals need a helping hand. The company claims its software, called Alphatax, is the only successor to older, spreadsheet- based formats. Training is offered to acquaint new users with the software, which is designed for the tax-literate, such as finance directors. Customers include Marks & Spencer, Orange and IBM. Shares owned by the first-round investor Jon Moulton of Alchemy Partners were bought by KPMG in 2000. The company’s sales have grown 60% a year from £1.3m in 2001 to £3.4m in 2003.
