When Haydn Williams and James Jones lost their jobs in 1993, they did not expect to end up owning the company they left. But that is what happened in September 2003, when their start-up Technocover acquired their former employer, Jones of Oswestry. The combined business makes a range of high-security products from cabinets to doors, some of which are designed to withstand a terrorist attack. Its customers include Thames Water and the railway industry. The acquisition in 2003 helped profits grow 55% a year from £858,000 in 2000 to £3.2m in 2003.
