Founded in Antrim in 1996 with start-up capital from Delta Partners, Texthelp’s text-to-speech software helps people with reading and writing difficulties to improve their literacy skills. Although the firm’s main market is the education sector, its products can also be used in the home, the workplace and by those for whom English is a second language. Under chief executive Mark McCusker, the business has recently entered the apps market, and been boosted by strong sales in Britain and North America. Profits have grown 60% a year, from £1.1m in 2007 to £4.4m in 2010.
