Thames Water is Britain’s biggest water and waste-water business. It has 14m customers in London and the Thames Valley, and is now targeting growth across Britain – in April one of its divisions signed its first deal north of the border, to supply Jurys Inn hotels in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Despite debts of £9bn, the company says it is spending £5bn to upgrade its network. The Canadian infrastructure fund Aquila bought a minority stake in April. Thames is led by chief executive Martin Braggs, 48.
