Somerset cider maker Thatchers was founded more than a century ago and now grows 25 apples varieties across its 500 acres of orchards. Managing director Martin Thatcher, 51, is the fourth generation of the family to lead the company and has spearheaded its modernisation, investing in a £14m cider mill and launching television adverts. Exporting to 22 countries helped sales break the £100m milestone for the first time in 2018, with profits up 155% to £9.4m.
