This London-based mobile wireless broadband company operates a pan-European wi-fi network. The company, which is pioneering free wi-fi for consumers, is led by Steve Nicholson and was founded by Niall Murphy and George Polk in 2003. Its network partners include McDonald’s, BAA and Vodafone, and it also works with O2 to deliver Apple’s iPhone wi-fi service in Britain. The Cloud received a cash injection of €21m in 2007, enabling it to acquire two German businesses and accelerate the rollout of its network. Sales have risen 96% a year from an annualised £1.1m in 2004 to £8.2m in 2007.
