Started in 1866 as a Glasgow shipping company, this group’s activities now include seafood fishing and processing, logistics and support services to the oil and construction industries. Denholm has grown through a series of acquisitions, most recently buying the chemical-cleaning and decontamination business Tanktech. Led by the founder’s great-grandson, John Denholm, sales slipped to £238m in 2009 but the company made profits of £5.4m after two years in the red.
