The Iron Bed Company may soon have to change its name, as husband and wife team Simon and Anne Notley have now added their own range of linens and duvets to the production of upmarket iron beds that form the core of the firm. They also produce a range of dining tables and chairs. The Notleys, who sold their Sussex home in 1994 to finance their start-up in a disused chicken shed, now run 17 shops in Britain and four in Germany. The company recently launched a mail-order budget range of beds under the brand name Iron Beds Direct. Iron Bed has boosted sales by 89% a year, from £1.2m in 1996 to £8.1m in 1999.
