The main subsidiary of this group is the precious-metals business Gerrards, based in Hatton Garden, London’s jewellery quarter. Gerrards buys precious-metal scrap in almost any form, from second-hand jewellery to gold teeth. It also sells sovereigns, gold bars and Krugerrand coins. The group, wholly owned by the Collins family, more than doubled sales to £207.8m in 2010 as a result of soaring gold and silver prices allied with growing interest from the public in generating some cash from their family heirlooms.
