Christopher James founded The Message Pad in 1994 to offer telephone answering services to companies whose switchboards are overloaded. Customers for the Warwick company, which develops its own software, range from one-man businesses to multinationals such as Total Fina and Michelin.
Its sales have grown 64% a year, from £994,000 in 1998 to £2.7m in 2000.
