Started in 1989 by the former market trader Chris Dawson, 65, The Range sells leisure, home and garden products from 140 UK stores, with sales growing 15% to £761m in its latest year. In March it revealed plans for a new head office and superstore in Plymouth, which will create 570 jobs. Later this year it is opening a vast, £100m warehouse near Bristol. The former House of Fraser boss Nigel Oddy, 57, joined as chief executive in April.
