Started in 1989 by managing director Chris Dawson, 66, The Range sells leisure, home and garden products in 150 UK stores, with sales growing 15% to £761m in 2017 and profits hitting £90m. Following the arrival of new chief executive Nigel Oddy, 58, in April 2017, the retailer opened a 1.2m sq ft distribution centre outside Bristol, creating more than 1,000 jobs. The Range is reportedly considering a stock market flotation later this year, which could value the Plymouth business at £2bn.
