This London-based company makes specialist foams and plastics that are used in everything from mattresses and sofa cushions to high-tech soundproofing. New chief executive Joe Menendez was hired from Saint-Gobain early this year, with interim chief executive John Oliver becoming chairman. The company was taken private in 2005 in a £668m deal backed by the American private-equity investor Texas Pacific, now called TPG Capital. Since then Vita has expanded strongly, opening new facilities in locations including Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Sales for 2007 were £985m.
