Founded in 1869, Thomas Vale now undertakes building and engineering projects across the Midlands and south of England. Its work encompasses building schools, housing and commercial sites, as well as council estate regeneration projects. Last month it was one of 103 companies fined by the Office of Fair Trading for bid-rigging. In 1992, 3i backed a buyout from engineering firm Metsec for an undisclosed sum, and in 2009, sales reached £216.2m under managing director Tony Hyde.
