The building and engineering contractor Thomas Vale, founded in 1869, has been involved in some of the largest recent construction projects in the Midlands. These include a £38m office block for Birmingham city council and Building Schools for the Future projects. The Worcestershire firm is now 100% owned by the management, having bought out 3i in 2009. Although sales fell to £196.5m in 2010, the company’s profits rose to £3.3m.
