There is a 50% chance that the braking and fuel systems in your car were made by TI Automotive. The Oxford company claims that half of the 57m cars produced worldwide each year rely on its technology. TI employs 21,000 people in 29 countries and notched up sales of £1,572m and operating profits of £74m in 2003. Formed after being demerged from Smiths Group in 2001, TI is now part-owned by its management. Smiths Group retains a 20% share.
