Despite good weather putting a damper on Timpson’s shoe and umbrella repair sales, the Manchester company managed to grow annualised profits by 33% last year to £19m, on sales of £201.3m. Originally a shoe business founded in 1865 by William Timpson, it now offers key-cutting, watch and mobile phone repairs, dry cleaning and photo services across 1,500 stores. The founder’s great-grandson, chairman John Timpson, 74, and his son James, 46, the chief executive, led the firm’s acquisition of Johnson Services’ dry-cleaning business for £8.3m in January.
