Formed in 1929 by Joseph Toomey as a motorbike shop, and named after the Essex town in which it was based, this group is run by the founder’s son, Michael, who became chairman in 1968, and Peter Dance, managing director. It encompasses Vauxhall, Nissan, Renault, Saab, Peugeot, Fiat, Chevrolet and Daewoo dealerships, a body repair shop, car rental, insurance and construction. Last year Laindon had sales of £152.9m.
