Having run price-comparison sites, Oliver Ragg and Michael Tomkins wanted to set up a business that would keep users coming back for more. They launched Top Cashback in 2005, and say they now have a database of more than 1m members. Once registered, a member can click on offers from any of 3,000 listed retailers, such as Tesco, O2 and BMI Baby, and then the website will track and reward their subsequent purchases. Attracting up to 100,000 unique visitors per day, the company claims that the average customer receives £50 cashback a year. The Staffordshire-headquartered business generates money through advertising. Sales soared by 189% a year, from £641,000 in 2008 to £15.5m in 2011
