TouchLocal runs online business directories, including Touchlocal.com and Scoot, that contain the details of more than 2m UK businesses, as well as customer reviews. A basic listing is free, but 25,000 companies pay to ensure they come near the top of directory search results. Touch Local also runs location-specific searches for the website Ask.com, The Independent newspaper and News International. Led by chief executive Mark Livingstone, the London company is diversifying by helping businesses with their internet marketing. Balderton Capital invested £7m in 2006 and sales grew 54% a year from £2.5m in 2007 to £9.3m in 2010, but Touch Local is still making a loss.
