In 2007, service station director Jabir Sheth, 41, saw an opportunity to move into oil wholesaling and enlisted Nick Lyons, a 30-year veteran of the industry, as his operations director. Transglobal Fuels now provides 50m litres a year of petrol, diesel and gas to 20 customers. It counts independent service stations, councils, hauliers such as Eddie Stobart, and the milk supplier Robert Wiseman among its customers. The Yorkshire company hopes that in the next few years it will secure a licence to sell its own brand of fuels. Sales figures include duty, which accounts for about a third of turnover. The firm’s profit margins were slim.
