It is hard to travel without spotting one of Travelex’s 950 foreign-exchange outlets at airports, ports or rail stations around the globe. It claims to be the world’s leading foreign-exchange and international payments specialist, with more than 30m customers and handling international payments for more than 35,000 firms each year. The group is reported to be looking to sell its business-payments arm for a potential £600m. Founder and executive chairman Lloyd Dorfman sold a 57% stake to Apax in 2005 in a £1.1 billion deal and sales reached £696m in 2010.
