Travelodge was one of Britain’s first budget hotel brands. Launched in 1985 it operates more than 340 hotels and has over 24,000 rooms in Ireland, Spain and Britain. The Oxfordshire-based company plans to run up to 1,000 hotels by 2020, and aims to be the biggest operator in London by the 2012 Olympics. More than 6.5m people stay at one of Travelodge’s hotels every year, with tariffs starting at £19 a night. Dubai International Capital acquired the chain from Permira in 2006 for £675m. Under chief executive Grant Hearn, 2007 sales reached £243.8m.
