Travelodge was founded in 1985 and says it is now Britain’s largest independent hotel chain, operating more than 500 hotels and 38,000 rooms across the UK, Ireland and Spain. More than 17m people stayed in the company’s facilities last year, with almost 80% making their reservation online. The group’s £100m modernisation programme will be completed this year. Peter Gowers, 43, is chief executive.
