Set up in 1978 to provide chauffeur services in Britain, Tristar now operates in 80 countries. Led by chief executive Dean de Beer, and backed since 2008 by Octopus Ventures, the company’s key overseas markets are America, France, Germany, Switzerland and Brazil. The recent acquisition of an American competitor, which has customers with South American interests, is expected to drive growth in South America and to introduce new American clients to Tristar’s European operations. International sales grew 82% a year from £1.2m in 2009 to £4m in 2011.
