This company was founded by Robert Tullis in 1809 to produce handmade paper for printers in Fife. Today, Tullis Russell’s paper division makes 160,000 tonnes of high-quality paper and cardboard every year, which is sold in 50 countries and used for products ranging from books and birthday cards to packaging for perfume bottles. Its coatings division has operations in Cheshire and South Korea, from where it produces coatings for everything from postage stamps to temporary tattoos. The business has been owned by its employees since 1994, and is run by chief executive Chris Parr. Sales reached £153.3m in 2009.
