Tunnock’s started life in 1890 when Thomas Tunnock bought a baker’s shop in the Glasgow suburb of Uddingston – the business is still based there, with the main factory just 100 yards from the original site. Its four core products are Caramel Wafers, Snowballs, Caramel Logs and Teacakes and it is headed by managing director Boyd Tunnock, 82, the founder’s grandson. Profits hit £6.1m last year as exports rose.
