Lower cost telephone calls and lines, and high levels of personal customer service, have helped Manchester-based Unicom attract 55,000 customers for its telecoms services, most of them small businesses. Founded by chief executive Simon Clarke in 1998, Unicom supplies fixed landline and broadband services through BT’s network, and says it offers 56% off BT’s standard business rates on national calls. Unicom claims it supplies more than 300m minutes to its customers each year. The company’s sales have grown 65% a year from £4.7m in 2002 to £21.3m in 2005. This year’s turnover is expected to reach £40m.
